Who We Are
Onboard Woodshop is a small workshop based in the Swan Valley in Western Australia. Our focus is to create high quality, locally made wooden products that are not only admired, but make a life changing impact.
Onboard Woodshop is owned and operated by Tony Duong. Tony has been passionate about woodworking from a young age when he was introduced to the craft in school. However, his parents believed that trades are for the uneducated and inevitably Tony was pushed into higher education. After completing his studies in Actuarial Science, Tony worked as an Analyst for a number of years before he was made redundant in 2014. His redundancy came only months before his wedding with his now wife, Rebecca. With no income and no immediate job prospects, things weren’t looking up, but Tony decided to seize the opportunity of his now free time and pick up his woodworking tools.
Despite not having made anything since high school, and with an attitude of ‘how hard can it be?’, Tony decided to tackle a king-sized project: a king-sized bed. Completing the project only weeks before the wedding, he learnt that woodworking is a complex craft, requiring a lot of skill, finesse, patience and practice. While the project was filled with challenges, it helped Tony rediscover his passion for woodworking and creating wooden products.
Fast forward a few years to 2018, and Tony’s hobby had turned into a deeper passion to produce high-quality wooden products that he uses as a platform to make a difference in the lives of others.
All items at Onboard Woodshop are made by Tony from his workshop in Perth, Western Australia, who creates each piece uniquely, using handpicked Australian hardwoods. Tony is committed to creating products that will be admired in your home and will stand the test of time.
